This is the hardest part about doing this blog. Writing DJ reviews. This stems from the fact that I’ve really only been into electronic dance music for about a year (Boo-hoo, figure it out, I know.) However, as you can see from my little last.fm chart over there, it’s pretty much all I’ve been listening to as of late. I have been a TCM fan for alot longer than that and will say that they have definately shapped my current taste in music.
So this was round three shooting The Crystal Method this year and it was probably the best overall TCM shoot to date. For this set, I was able to get shots while on the stage, which was a hell of a lot easier than when shooting at Beta Nightclub. I was pretty much able to roam around freely. However, I didn’t go directly in front of the decks because I just didn’t feel comfortable doing it. So the stage access was a plus. The negative was the lighting. I haven’t seen that much red lighting in awhile. (I have an idea. Someone bring the lighting rig from Beta to the Fox. Genius, I know.)
One thing that makes shooting these guys fun is that they don’t stand behind the decks all night. Scott Kirkland was pretty much all over the stage last night, which made for some interesting shots. Not only that, the crowd seemed to get a little more amped whenever he stepped out from behind the decks.
Thanks to Jen @ Three Artist Management for setting me up with a photo pass and to Josh for allowing to me to roam the stage.

The Crystal Method played Beta Nightclub for the second time this year, once again playing to a packed house, which is no surprise. They ended their set with a track from their upcoming fourth studio album, which is set to drop some time in early 2009, so keep a look out for that. Now…if we could only just get them to start a ‘Live Show’ tour…
