The lighting for The Roots was really good. There were only a few instances where red light was used. I tried the ‘angled’ look for some of the photographs and I actually like how they turned out. I think it’s a technique that works well for performers that have a lot of energy.

John Mayer decided to start his set about a half an hour early, causing the photographers to wait outside the pit waiting for a rep to get clearance from Mayer’s PR to shoot songs 4, 5 and 6. Fortunately, things were cleared up and we were rushed into the pit. Same rules applied here as the did with Tom Petty; no shooting from directly in front of the stage.

I used the same gear as I used for day one. The stage lighting for Dave Matthews made the shoot compared to the previous night shooting Tom Petty. I shot DMB at around f/3.5 - 1/125sec - 1/160sec - ISO 640 and choose to stand at the left hand side of the stage. Since Dave Matthews plays guitar right handed, standing stage left would allow me to get a full shot of the guitar in the shots vs. standing on the right side of the stage and generally only getting the neck of his guitar.
